AS PART OF

ALL WOMEN BOOTCAMP

This is a design project from the UX/UI Woman in Tech Bootcamp. Based on user research, I have identified an opportunity for an app that connects food, body and mind.

THE PROBLEM

When it comes to food, we can feel overwhelmed with the amount of missleading information we find on the net. Diet culture, big companies and social pressure can really complicate our approach to food. But what if we focus our attention not on counting calories, but understanding how our body and mind feels and how it affects our relationship with food?

THE SOLUTION

Connect with yourself to improve
your relationship with food.

A wellness platform, where you can:
· Record emotions and feelings.
· Follow tips to improve your food habits.
· Create a personalised program of exercises and recipes (journeys) to overcome any food challenge.
· Learn about food and break the many myths associated with dieting.

As the research showed, our energy level affects the way we enjoy our meals. That's why the main flow of the app involves a short questionnaire, which based on the answers, allows us to propose different exercises and tips to reconnect with oneself in the moments that it matters.

UNDERSTAND

DESK RESEARCH

Food relates to cooking, planning and recipes, but also about health, body and mind.

USER REVIEW

“Many apps tend to focus on weight loss exclusively instead of health itself. They emulate diet culture patterns and often push that onto the user”

SURVEY

100 answers

35,4%

Considers their relationship with food stressful or complicated.

33%

Eats because is meal time.

57,7%

Answers indicate that main issues around food are impulsive snacking, sugary things & over eating.

INTERVIEWS

Six people with and without food issues. Two of the participants overcame an eating disorder.

Even the people who felt relaxed about food, struggled at some point. Following schedules can create discomfort.

DEFINE

AFFINITY DIAGRAM

After gathering all the information, I grouped them in topics. Covid as increased the “me-time” allowing people to spend more time cooking and enjoying a meal.

Education is a topic that naturally came to the conversations. How families approach this topic can create a big impact.

PROBLEM STATEMENT & HYPOTHESIS

People have difficulties around food because they are not having the space to relate food, body and mind.

Our solution should be that area where they can connect to feel better while reinforcing a balanced food habits.

"I believe that giving tools to people that can feel stressed about their own food journey, will achieve a more conscious relationship with food."

HMW?

HMW... create awareness about inherited habits and give them the possibility to learn from others?

HMW... improve the eating experience?

HMW... support our users to create their own habits around food?

HMw... create an intuitive platform to gather information about food?

IDEATION > PROTOTYPING > TESTING

After doing some crazy 8’s, I started the iterative process of wireframing -> testing

CONCLUSION

The deeper I went in to this topic, the more I realised how sensitive it is for many people, often touching on topics that people find it difficult to discuss openly. Though ultimately most of the users I interviewed were really interested in a product that helped them to understand their own eating habits and motivations.

The product could be monetised via access to coaches and nutritionists, that are contactable to users with a premium subscription.
